Can I access Cosmopod from a public PC?

Why would I use Cosmopod? It's a free hosted Linux computer desktop that has tons of applications such as Open Office and all the K-Desktop tools. Once you are logged into Cosmopod, your online transactions are encrypted and nobody on your network or on the net can see them. This is just what you need for a safe access on a public PC.

Go to this French website to get the Portable NX Client v1.5. Unzip the file onto one of your thumb drives.

You then fire up your copy on the thumb drive and set it up as shown.

Once you get it set, just use it to log into your Cosmopod account.

Here's a picture of my Desktop.

That's it. Enjoy your online desktop.

  1. Or you could just sign for Free account with desktopondemand.com and download their portable NX client which you can then use to connect to Cosmopod.

Not tried it but should work.

  2. Hi Mehmood,

Thanks for the tip. I did try the DoD portable NX Client. It works very nicely once it is set up for Cosmopod.

If anyone wants to try it, here is a copy of settings I used.

  3. Cliff,

I found your review of Cosmopod very useful. I'm thinking of downloading it. Do you know whether or not on the virtual desktop, you are allowed to stream videos? Does it allow installation of Windows Media Player or (plugins)?

  4. Hi Super.

It's actually a Linux virtual PC set up with KDE desktop and tons of other free and open source apps.

You won't find Windows Media Player or any other Microsoft wares in it.

As far as streaming videos ... don't know I've never tried. My guess is that you might run into bandwidth limits.

    Thanks for the comment!
